Herbs that will grow with only about 3 hours of sun per day

  • Herb Robert (Geranium robertianum)
  • Lemon Balm
 (Melissa officinalis)
  • Borage
 (Borage officinalis)
  • Chives (Allium schoenoprasum)
  • Coriander (Coriandrum sativum)
  • Mint (Mentha spp)
  • Oregano (Origanum Vulgare)
  • Parsley (Petroselinum crispum)

Vegetables that will grow with only about 3 hours of sun per day

  • Beets (Beta vulgaris) – beetroot, silverbeet, chard
  • Carrots (Daucus carota)
  • Potatoes (Solanum tuberosum) require a lot of soil disturbance during harvesting and there for not suitable in a fungal dominated soil
  • Radish (Raphanus sativus) may become wood as is slower growing
  • Turnips (Brassica rapa var. rapa) NB may have an antifungal effect on soil microbes
  • Warrigal greens (Tetragonia tetragonioides)

The following crops will produce with three to six hours of sun, or fairly constant dappled shade, per day.

  • Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) Nitrogen fixation
  • Broccoli (Brassica oleracea) NB may have an antifungal effect on soil microbes in a Food Forest
  • Brussels Sprouts (Brassica oleracea var. gemmifera) NB may have an antifungal effect on soil microbes in a Food Forest
  • Cauliflower (Brassica oleracea) NB may have an antifungal effect on soil microbes in a Food Forest
  • Collards (Brassica oleracea) NB may have an antifungal effect on soil microbes in a Food Forest
  • Cress. (Lepidiumus sativum)
  • Endive (Cichorium endivia)
  • Kale (Brassica oleracea) NB may have an antifungal effect on soil microbes in a Food Forest
  • Lettuce (Lactuca sativa),
  • Mustard greens (Brassica juncea) NB may have an antifungal effect on soil microbes in a Food Forest
  • Peas (Pisum sativum) Nitrogen fixation
  • Rocket (Eruca sativa)
  • Spinach (Spinacia oleracea)
